Junior food - how to feed your young dog correctly

Ein Hund liegt freudig vor einem Napf mit Futter.

Approximately after the 4. month ends the puppy time - your fur friend is then as a young dog. Now he needs special junior food for growth and well-being. An adolescent dog has different food requirements than an adult dog. But what is important when feeding young dogs?

What is a young dog?

Each dog develops individually at its own pace. And the breed also plays a role in physical and mental development. The puppy period lasts approximately until the 16th week of life, sometimes a little longer. From the 18th week of life, your furry friend is a young dog or junior. An exciting age with special challenges. New behaviors can emerge during dog puberty. Above all, however, your junior is bursting with energy. In addition to a lot of love and consistency, the young four-legged friend also needs a diet that suits his age.

Why you should feed junior food

Junior food is the best way to support your dog's development. It is ideally suited to the needs of growing four-legged friends. Your young dog has an increased energy requirement as he is growing every day. That's why he either gets more food or the energy content of the food must be higher than that of an adult dog.

Calcium and phosphorus play an important role in bone growth. Not only the quantity, but also the ratio to each other must be right. However, a young dog also needs many other nutrients in different quantities to adult dogs. These do not always have to be more.

In addition, young dogs can quickly develop food intolerances. They therefore need a digestible food with high-quality and easily digestible proteins.

How long does your dog get junior food?

You should feed your dog junior food until it is fully grown. Depending on the breed, this is the case between twelve and 24 months. If you are unsure about feeding your young fur friend, ask your vet for advice.

Which junior food is best for your furry friend?

A good junior food provides your four-legged friend with high-quality protein and energy. Tasty variety with a high meat content is particularly species-appropriate. And if your young dog likes it, the bowl will be empty very quickly. How about our Farmer Menu for juniors? Selected meats and offal ensure an optimum supply of nutrients and minerals.
